What is ABC 2026

The 41st Annual Blow Molding Conference, organized by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), is a technical event dedicated entirely to blow molding.

Impressive technical presentation

The topic of PET Technologies presentation is “Advanced Heat Management for Large Preform Reheating.” Based on our R&D developments and real project implementations, we will share practical experience gained from working with non-standard, thick-walled, and heavy preforms in real production conditions.

What enables PET Technologies to successfully realize such projects is our full in-house approach, from bottle design and blow mold development to machine engineering and process setup. A key role in this is played by the NIR heating system used in the APF-Max series, allowing deeper and more uniform heating of preforms such as rPET and large, thick-walled formats.

This is especially important for refillable (returnable) PET bottles, where heavy preforms must be heated precisely to achieve the strength required for repeated washing and reuse cycles. Accurate and consistent reheating directly defines the durability and lifetime of these bottles in real operation.

Another growing format is stackable PET bottles, designed to be placed on top of each other without deformation or collapse. These bottles require reinforced geometry such as load-bearing shoulders and optimized bases, which in turn demand precise and uniform heat distribution during reheating to achieve the required performance.

With the rising popularity of 5 US gallon (18.9 L) PET bottles, PET Technologies has been implementing multiple projects simultaneously for this format. Preforms here can reach around 700 g, making reheating a complex technical challenge. Solutions developed for machines like the UPF-30, including internal heating unit following the main oven, allow us to handle these tasks reliably.
