Strengthening US Blow Molding: The Role of PET Technologies in Training

The performance of a blow molding line depends greatly on the skills of the people who operate the equipment. These skills are not gained from theory alone. They are developed through real work with machines, materials, and production processes. Only firsthand training can allow an operator to fully understand how a system behaves and how to keep it running consistently.

For this reason, access to real equipment and structured training becomes essential for producers who want stable bottle production. This is what our US partner NEX-TEC does.

Operators’ Training During Equipment Commissioning

At PET Technologies, we place strong emphasis on operator training when commissioning new blow molding equipment for our customers. PET Technologies engineers work directly with the client’s personnel on the machine, by explaining how the system works, how to take care of it, and supervising production runs on all formats of the client’s bottles. After the training period is completed, operators are assessed and certified, confirming that they are prepared to operate the equipment at the facility.

Through continuous after-sales services, warranty support, spare parts supply, and engineering checkups, PET Technologies continues to support our clients throughout the life cycle of their blow molding machines.

Why Additional Training Is Important

At the same time, commissioning training can’t address all future needs of a production team. Personnel changes, new hires, and experience levels can lead to operators needing more time to fully master the specifics of stretch blow molding. This can create a gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience.

NEX TEC Training Center

The NEX TEC Center in Fort Worth, Texas, was established to address a critical challenge in the plastics industry. As production equipment becomes increasingly advanced, the demand for skilled technicians who deeply understand these machines continues to grow. The center operates as a dedicated Technical Training and Rebuild facility where operators, process engineers, and maintenance specialists can work with real production equipment in a controlled environment.

NEX TEC was founded by Harold Bailey together with industry professionals who bring decades of experience in packaging, plastics, technical training, and blow molding. Their combined expertise led to the development of a 10,000 sq. ft. climate-controlled facility featuring modern training classrooms, operational production equipment, a laboratory, and a fully equipped Rebuild Workshop.

PET Technologies APF-3002 Uses in Training

One of the primary training machines at NEX TEC is the PET Technologies APF-3002, an automatic two-stage stretch blow molding machine designed for PET bottle production. It is used to provide hands-on instruction and practical demonstrations on how to properly operate and maintain automatic stretch blow molding equipment.

The APF-3002 is one of the most widely used automatic blow molding machines from PET Technologies, with installations around the world. Its reliability, compact design, and operational flexibility make it a popular solution for many PET bottle producers.

Key characteristics of the APF-3002 blow molder include:

  • 2-cavity platform
  • Over 100 machines installations
  • Volume ranges from 0.1 to 2 L bottles
  • Productivity rates up to 3000 bottles per hour

These features make the APF-3002 an ideal training platform; it’s fast enough to feel like production, compact enough to focus on fundamentals, and familiar mechanical operations to popular blow molding platforms.

What this training approach improves on the plant floor for the client

  • Line stability: teams learn how to keep settings consistent and how to spot drift before defects appear.
  • Changeover discipline: repeatable steps reduce variations that cause short stops and quality swings.
  • Maintenance quality: technicians practice inspections, adjustments, and checks, using a structured routine.
  • Troubleshooting speed: practicing on live systems builds confidence to isolate root causes without extended downtime.

Typical training on APF-3002 includes:

  • Start-up and safe shutdown, including checks tied to critical components and terminology.
  • Process fundamentals: preform heating basics, bottle-defect recognition, and quality-control routines.
  • Blow mold and setup work: inspection, adjustment, and controlled changes that show cause-and-effect in the bottle.

How NEX TEC Structures Stretch Blow Molding Training

  • Four-day programs (Monday–Thursday) that balance classroom fundamentals with hands-on machine labs.
Two training levels, from TRA-101 fundamentals to TRA-102 process management focused on control and process stability.
    • Pre- and post-training assessments, with a certificate of completion awarded at the end of the program.
    • Focused on real-world outcomes: standardizing setups, diagnosing defects more quickly, and consistently meeting product specifications with confidence.

For PET Technologies, seeing the APF-3002 used as a firsthand training machine in the United States is an important milestone. It proves the quality and reliability of PET Technologies equipment, as well as its suitability for professional technical training.

For customers, the availability of dedicated training centers that operate PET Technologies provides value beyond the machine itself. Well-trained operators help ensure stable bottle quality, efficient production cycles, and reliable equipment performance over the long term.

When teams develop a deeper understanding of the machine and the stretch blow molding process, producers are better equipped to maintain consistent output, reduce downtime, and fully utilize the capabilities of their PET Technologies blow molding equipment.
